Day 132 – Chasing Wind, Finding God

Have you ever finally got the thing you were sure would make you happy, only to feel the same emptiness a week later? That ache is exactly where today's readings begin. In Ecclesiastes 1 through 3, the Teacher says it out loud. Meaningless, meaningless. He has tried everything under the sun, pleasure, work, wisdom, wealth, and found that none of it fills the hole inside. It's not a book of despair. It's a book of brutal honesty. Then Psalm 45 lifts our eyes with a wedding song for a king, painting a glory that does not fade. And Paul, writing to Timothy from prison near the end of his life, has long since stopped chasing the wind. He's found something worth holding, and he tells Timothy to hold it too. Read side by side, these chapters show that the restless heart is searching for a King this world can't provide.
Underneath it all lies a single truth. That restlessness that pushes you from one thing to the next is not a flaw. It's a signpost. You were made for Someone this world cannot give you.
How do we carry this into today? Three simple steps.
First, finish this sentence honestly, out loud if you can. The thing I keep expecting to finally satisfy me is. Whatever fills that blank, bring it to God in prayer and let Him hold it.
Second, read Ecclesiastes 3, where it says there's a time for everything. Name the season you're actually in right now. Is it building, waiting, grieving, or growing? Then ask God what He might be doing in it.
Third, hold onto Paul's words from 2 Timothy 1. I know whom I have believed. Repeat that line through the day, especially when worry creeps in. Let it answer your anxiety.
Let this stay with you today. Every empty thing you try is an arrow pointing toward the One your heart was made for. So stop running after substitutes, and rest in the One who lasts.
