Day 146 – A Day of Good News

Have you ever noticed that God is often already at work in the very moment things look most hopeless? Today's readings show that from three angles. In 2 Kings 7, four starving men with leprosy sit outside a besieged city. They decide they have nothing left to lose, wander into the enemy camp, and find it abandoned and piled with food. The good news is so big they can't keep it to themselves. Over in 2 Chronicles 21, we meet a different kind of man. Jehoram grabs for security by murdering his own brothers, and he dies unmourned, clutching a kingdom he could never hold. Then in Matthew 6, Jesus climbs the mountainside and tells us to stop worrying about what we'll eat or wear. Seek first his kingdom, he says, and trust a Father who feeds the birds and clothes the fields. Read side by side, these chapters show one choice set before us every day. We can grasp in fear, or trust the God who provides.
One thread ties all of this together. God's provision often shows up right when our own resources run out. That frees us from fear, and it frees us from the urge to hoard.
How do we carry this into today? Here are three simple steps.
First, name one thing you've been worrying about. Before you do anything else today, hand it to God in prayer. Say it out loud if you can. Let your first move be trust.
Second, be like those men who couldn't stay silent. Share one piece of genuinely good news with someone. Maybe it's an answered prayer, or something God has done for you lately. Speak it to a friend today.
Third, loosen your grip. Sometime this week, give something away to someone in need. Open hands are what trust in God's provision looks like in real life.
As you step into your day, carry this with you. The Father who feeds the birds has not forgotten you. He knows what you need before you ask, and he is already at work where you can't yet see.
